Monty – Bay Thoroughbred Gelding 11 years old.

Bought from the local auctions August 2006. He was drugged and dopey, thin, injured and generally broken down. After some TLC, good food and numerous vet interventions he is stronger fitter and reasonably sound. He carries a big injury to his hock which means he may never be fit for anything other than light hacks.

One of the interesting things about racehorses is that you can find a lot of information about them, through their passport and by checking their “form” on the internet.

MontyMonty was working hard from a very early age. His first race was in 1998 at the age of two. He won 10 races and was placed in another 4 races. He ran his last race in June 2002. He won 10 races with a total of £36,000 prize money for his, then, owners.

At the end of his useful racing life, he was sold and spent 5 years in a training yard. From there, at the end of 2005 he found himself on a journey to Derbyshire. His story between December 2005 and August 2006, goes very hazy.

Monty now works loves his work. He is a natural teacher. He responds genuinely and in the moment. He is confident and articulates himself well. He has found his vocation and we count ourselves very lucky to have the privilege of working with him and learning from him.
